In boys’ action, the Cougars edged the Northumberland Nighthawks 2-1.

Matt Jones and Ben Lauther scored for the Cougars, while Mike MacGillivray replied for the Nighthawks in a physical, but sloppy, game at CEC field.

The boys visit defending champion Dr. J.H. Gillis Royals from Antigonish today.

On the girls’ side, the Cougars hammered the Nighthawks 7-0.

The girls team plays its home opener today against rival Dr. J.H. Gillis at CEC field at 4:30 p.m.

If the CEC girls’ team wins the Northumberland region this season, they will host this year’s provincial championship tournament.
