TRURO, N.S. – Canada has qualified for the playoffs at the world junior women’s curling championship.
The team, consisting of skip Kaitlyn Jones, third Kristin Clarke, second Karlee Burgess, of Hilden, and lead Lindsey Burgess, of Truro, punched its ticket to a Friday semifinal after a 10-7 win over Switzerland on Wednesday in Aberdeen, Scotland.
Canada later defeated Norway 8-6 to improve its second-place record to 7-1. Defending champion Sweden remains unbeaten at 8-0 and will also play in a semifinal on Friday.
Against Switzerland, Jones scored four in the seventh end to snap a 5-5 tie en route to victory.
Canada plays its final round-robin game Thursday against Sweden at 10 a.m. Atlantic time.
On the men’s side, Canada’s Tyler Tardi downed South Korea 10-3 in six ends on Wednesday to inch closer to a playoff berth.
Canada sits tied for second with a record of 5-2. Scotland leads the way at 7-0. Tardi closes out the round-robin Thursday with games against Russia at 5 a.m. and Germany at 3 p.m.
