Bearcats edged by Mariners in OT

YARMOUTH, N.S. – The Yarmouth Mariners got an overtime goal from Noah McMullin to edge the Truro Bearcats 3-2 on Monday in Game 3 of a Maritime Junior Hockey League divisional semifinal series.

Yarmouth leads the best-of-seven series 2-1 heading into Game 4 tonight at the RECC, beginning at 7 p.m.

McMullin netted the winner at 2:03 of the first overtime period with a hard, high shot past Kevin Resop to give the hometown Mariners victory in front of a crowd of 1,280.

The home team has won all three games so far in the series.

After a scoreless first period, Bearcats captain Campbell Pickard opened the scoring for the Bearcats at 3:02 of the second. Luc Poirier got the Mariners on even terms just 49 seconds later. Poirier struck again at 9:30 for a 2-1 Yarmouth lead after 40 minutes. Dylan Burton made it 2-2 with a goal at 9:13 of the third.

Resop made 19 saves, while the Bearcats fired 25 shots at Leif Hertz.
