TRURO, N.S. – Bearcat-of-the-Week honours went go to first-year forward Elliott McGuire.
Statistics don’t tell all the story. There are roles to be played and he plays his well. For much of the season he and Luke Macmillan, along with another, have gained huge penalty kill minutes against the opposition’s top forwards.
Being responsible is an important quality for that task. In regular shifts, he’s provided some versatility, playing either at the center position or along the right side.
Elliott got his hockey start in the Valley Jr. Warriors program in Haverhill, Mass., then moved on to prep school hockey with Holderness in Plymouth, N.H. He played four seasons with that school, and was captain his last two years. He finished second in team scoring last year, leading by example on and off the ice.
Over those years he complemented Prep Hockey with play in the Massachusetts Development League with the Dual State River Hawks and the New Hampshire U18 Avalanche.
The Bearcats have benefited from his reliable play.
