TRURO - A former reporter and editor in Truro, who is a familiar face to senior baseball fans, is Premier Darrell Dexter's director of communications.
Shawn Fuller, who was the NDP's manager of research, received the appointment on Tuesday. Fuller was a reporter, and later an editor, with the Weekly Record in Truro from 1993 to 1995. He also played for the senior Truro Bearcats baseball team in 1994 and 1995 as well as from 2001 to 2005.
"Those were some of the best years playing ball that I had," he said. "It was just a fantastic group of guys."
Fuller said he likes his new job.
"It's exciting," he said. "I am working with a lot of great folks in government and also some veteran caucus members, who really know their way around the various issues."
Part of the job is dealing with reporters across the province.
"Having been a reporter helps you understand why reporters ask the questions they ask," he said.
The media "has a job to do, it's an important job and that job is an accountability measure for government and informing people of what's going on."
