CEC assistant coach J.P. Wood talks strategy with Lucas Watson.

The Cougars blasted the Hants East Tigers 17-2 and blanked the Hants North Fames 10-0 to earn the right to host the Northumberland region championship tournament Oct. 6 and 7 in Truro.

Watson, a lefty, allowed just two hits against the Tigers, while Briggs, a right-hander, fired a one-hitter at the Flames.

In the win over the Tigers, the Cougars scored seven times in the second inning to put the game out of reach early.

Briggs belted a two-run home run and Michael Jollimore singled and doubled in the contest that was called after three innings due to the 15-run mercy rule.

Connor Angers also doubled to help the cause.

Against the Flames, CEC built a 7-0 lead after two innings in the game that was halted after five because of the 10-run mercy rule.

With the wins, the Cougars improved their overall record this season to 11-0.
