CEC captures regional championship


AMHERST - The CEC Cougars baseball team dominated play at the NSSAF Northumberland Regional championship, going undefeated in three games and defeating Hants East Tigers 19-4 in the title game.

The CEC Cougars went undefeated on the weekend and downed East Hants 19-4 in the title game as they claimed the regional high school baseball title for the second straight season. This weekend the team will play host to Provincials.

Over the course of the two-day tournament, the Cougars outscored opponents 57-4, and ran their season record to 12 straight wins.

This is the second straight year CEC has won the regional title. They now host the NSSAF High School Baseball Provincials this weekend Friday, Oct. 14 and Saturday Oct 15, for the first time in school history.

A schedule for the six-team provincial tournament will be released early this week.

CEC 23

Pictou Academy 0

Fillippo Labanti earned the win on the mound for CEC, with Connor Irwin providing relief.

Justin Ferguson had four singles and Connor Angers added three singles, as CEC out-hit Pictou 17-1.

CEC 15

North Nova 0

Alessio Eritale belted a three-run homer, while Labanti chipped in with three singles and Dawson Briggs contributed two singles, as the Cougars put up 15 hits to North Nova’s 3.

Lucas Watson took the win on the mound.

Championship

CEC 19

East Hants 4

Briggs and Eritale both hammered homers in the championship game, while Justin Ferguson had two singles and a double. CEC out-hit East Hants 16-7.

Irwin had the win for the Cougars, while Briggs and Labanti also shared the pitching duties.
