The Wildcats were led by Kyle Dougan’s smoldering bat, as the P.E.I. native drove in six runs en route to a 13-3 win over the Bearcats in Nova Scotia Senior Baseball League action.
The Bearcats got off to the start they wanted, picking up two runs in the top of the first, before the Kentville responded in the bottom half by batting around the lineup to score five.
With the score 7-2 in the fourth, the Wildcats again went through the lineup, led by Dougan’s grand slam, to extend the lead to 13-2.
John Ansara contributed two singles, a double and one RBI, and Ian Lockhart added three singles, a walk, one RBI and some solid play at shortstop.
Former Wildcat John Chapman, the Bearcats’ player-coach, singled and doubled and drove in all three Bearcats runs. Truro starter Josh Fushtey took the loss, with Nick Best appearing in relief.
The Bearcats will continue their road swing with a game in Dartmouth tonight before heading over the bridge to Halifax on Sunday to take on the rival Canadians at Beazley Field. With the loss, the Bearcats remain one game back of the Canadians for second place in the senior league standings.
