TRACKSIDE: Atlantic Grand Circuit Week kicks off Sunday

BIBLE HILL, N.S. – From July 16 to 23 Truro Raceway will be the destination for horse lovers and harness racing enthusiasts with the stage set for the 35th edition of Atlantic Grand Circuit Week.  

Envisioned and created on the desks of then GM Brent MacGrath and race secretary Joe Kelly, AGCW has grown into the largest harness racing celebration in Nova Scotia and one of the most anticipated weeks in Atlantic Canada.

Return to Sunday racing

A Sunday afternoon card of harness racing returns, with a post-time of 1 p.m. The nine-dash card kicks off Atlantic Grand Circuit Week festivities.

The $1,575 top class showcases five of Truro’s finest and the short field should be a dash for cash with Rusty Riley leaving off the rail, Distinctive Rusty, Saint John entry HPBushido Dragjet, last week’s winner Weather Hanover and Badlandia rounding out the field, leaving five off of the gate.

Sunday: Roast beef dinner – $15.95, or lobster roll $16.95 each with dessert and tea/coffee.   

Tuesday: Cold plate – $15.95 or lobster roll – $16.95 with dessert and tea/coffee

Thursday: Quarter chicken dinner – $15.95 or lobster roll – $16.95 each with dessert and tea/coffee.

Who won the night

New Brunswick teamster Todd Trites picked up recognition on Friday, July 7 by posting four wins on the card, including a speedy trip in 157.1 with  Weather Hanover for owner, Dr. James Shive of Rines Creek, N.S.
