Local BMX rider comes up huge on the big stage

AUSTIN, TX - Drew Bezanson finally has a piece of hardware he's been looking forward to for a long, long time.

The Onslow Mountain native put up an electrifying run to claim X Games silver on Sunday in the BMX park category.

Bezanson dazzled the spectators, ripping into the park at high speed and keeping it up the full run. Following several high-flying moves and a barrel roll at breakneck speed, Bezanson emerged from the course after 60 quick seconds with his hands high and a smile on his face.

His run was enough to beat out all other competitors but Chase Hawk, a Texas native four years his senior.

Bezanson has been on a tear this season, having picked up a third place finish at Red Bull Dirt Conquers in Guadalajara, Mexico; a first place finish at Toronto BMX Jam; and victories at Simple Session 14 in Tallinn, Estonia, and the Baltic Games in Gdansk, Poland.

The silver medal comes a year after Bezanson finished fifth in the same competition at the X Games in Munich, Germany.
