TRURO – The Cobequid Cougars came up with a strong defensive effort on Sunday afternoon in a 16-0 victory over the Sackville Kingfishers.

The win evened the Cougars record to 3-3 in the Nova Scotia High School Football League, and was a solid bounce-back effort after a lopsided loss to Citadel in the annual Turkey Bowl the previous week.

Defensive back Andrew Murphy recorded six tackles and an interception, while defensive tackle Adam Kaulbach had six tackles and two sacks and free safety Aiden Roy also chalked up six tackles and a forced fumble.

Quarterback Riley Jennings was 7-of-18 passing for 102 yards, a touchdown and four interceptions. Quinten Blois had a one-yard touchdown catch, while running back Luke Ferguson rushed for 58 yards on nine carries.

Kicker Nick Zscheile booted field goals from 26 and 10 yards. The Cougars led 4-0 at halftime.

Cobequid hits the road next Sunday to play its first-ever game at West Kings. On Nov. 1, the Cougars complete their regular season at home against the Sir John A Macdonald Flames at 1 p.m.
