Chief Warrant Officer Helen Wheeler, the daughter of Kendrick and Gloria Sears of Baccaro, was invested into the Order of Military Merit by Governor-General David Johnston, on June 20 at Rideau Hall, Ottawa.
The Order of Military Merit recognizes significant accomplishments beyond the call of duty and remarkable service to Canada.
Over the course of her more than 32 years in the Canadian Armed Forces, CWO Wheeler has put service before self in a number of significant roles some of which include: Service with all three elements, (RCN, CA and the RCAF), Joint Operations, Military Personnel Command, recently as the first female Wing CWO at 4 Wing Cold Lake, Alberta and currently serving as the Health Services Group CWO in Ottawa. She has served in Bosnia, Herzgovina and deployed twice to Afghanistan in support roles.
CWO Wheeler has also promoted fitness, a key element of military culture, by placing first in many races and was the recipient of the 2013 âWoman of Influenceâ for the City of Cold Lake, Alberta. She has also taken part in many key fund raising activities over the years that support health causes and those less fortunate both inside and outside of the military.
