SPRINGHILL – An inmate at Springhill Institution was caught Tuesday trying to bring marijuana into the medium-security prison.

At about 10 a.m., correctional officers intercepted the inmate. This seizure is the result of the combined efforts of staff, including correctional officers, the detector-dog team and security intelligence officers.
The contraband seized includes 74 grams of marijuana, the total institutional value of is estimated at close to $7,500.
The police have been notified and the institution is investigating.
Correctional Service of Canada (CSC) uses a number of tools to prevent drugs from entering its institutions. These tools include ion scanners and drug-detector dogs to search buildings, personal property, inmates and visitors.
