A train has derailed on Lansdowne Road. Police have a perimeter set up in the area and are not allowing people to pass.
At 1:57 p.m., RCMP received a call that a train had left the tracks near the intersection of Lansdowne and Montreal roads in Lansdowne. The train was travelling from Stellarton to Truro at the time.
RCMP, EMO, New Glasgow Fire Department HAZMAT and officials from the Cape Breton and Central Nova Scotia Railway responded to the derailment and remain scene at this time.
Two people were on board the train and there are no reports of any injuries.
Six containers, carrying a butane/propane mix commonly referred to as Liquid Odourless Propane, left the tracks. Due to the hazardous nature of the cargo, residents within a two kilometre radius of the scene were evacuated from their homes.
Emergency and cleanup crews to arrive on scene late Monday night are still on scene into Tuesday.
