AYLESFORD - Police arrested two teenagers Sunday afternoon in connection with two fires in Aylesford.

Several fire departments were on the scene of a fire in an abandoned house on Highway 1 in Aylesford on Sunday, April 27.

Kings County RCMP say they are investigating the pair of structure fires on Highway 1 in the village.

Police and firefighters responded to a house and a barn on fire mid-afternoon April 27. The 15-year-old and a 17-year-old boys were arrested nearby and are in police custody.

“A little after 2:30 we got called to an abandoned house fire,” Aylesford Fire Chief Shawn Carey said at 6 p.m.

“Probably 10 minutes later we had a call for a barn on fire about 500 feet down the road from the house.”

Both the barn and house were a complete loss, he said. In addition to knocking down the fires, crews concentrated on protecting neighbouring homes and a garage.

“We had a couple of really close exposures,” Carey said.

Police and fire officials were still investigating the incidents Sunday evening.
