DIEPPE – A hard-fought, double overtime battle earned the Dieppe Commandos (10-5) the edge over the Truro Bearcats (10-2) Monday night at the Arthur J LeBlanc Arena.
Truro Bearcats fall to Dieppe Commandos
Game 4 of the Maritime Junior Hockey League’s Best of 7 – Kent Cup Finals series ended with a 3 – 2 win. The series is now tied 2 – 2.
The Bearcats earned an early lead with Kyle Tibbo, assisted by Tyler Morrison and Mitchell Robillard opening the scoring at 13:21 in the first period.
Commandos Matt Bernier, assisted by Shane Dallaire and Thierry Comtois scored at 17:52 to tie the game at 1-1 after the second period.
A second goal for the home team at 16:48 by Andrew Meredith, assisted by Mathieu Newcomb and Bernier gave the hometown Commandos a 2-1 lead.
The Bearcats answered with a goal at 19:45 by Philip Fife, assisted by Daniel Poliziani and Tyler Morrison to even the score at 2-2 and force extra time.
There was no scoring in the first overtime period. Joel Blanchard, assisted by Colton Parsons and Cody Drover secured the Commandos’ win just 1:35 into the second overtime period.
Game 5 will take place Tuesday at the Rath Eastlink Community Centre at 7 p.m.
