TRURO - It was a happy holiday season for the Truro Rolling Phones Bearcats.
The Truro Rolling Phones Bearcats recently won the midget A division title of the 34th annual KFC Christmas Tournament in Truro. The Bearcats defeated the Bedford Blues 5-1 in the final. The midget A hockey team laid claim to the 34th annual KFC Christmas Tournament at Colchester Legion Stadium. The Bearcats defeated the Bedford Blues 5-1 in the final after a 3-0 run through the round-robin earned them a bye to the championship game.
Jacob Dillon scored a pair of goals in the final while Caelan Blaikie, Ryan Porter and Bryson Crowell notched single markers. Nathan Hurlburt made 19 saves for the victory and Ryan Bakker was named Game MVP.
Truro wrapped up the preliminary round with a 5-0 win over the Sackville Flyers.
Taylor Daigle, Matt Crowell, Bryson Crowell, Josh Gamblin and Blaikie provided the goal scoring. Ryan Bakker chipped in a pair of assists and Brandon Archibald posted the shutout. Brendan Wheeler was Game MVP.
The Bearcats also blanked West Hants 5-0 in their second game of the event.
Caleb Coulson, Bryson Crowell, Bakker, Daigle and Dillon did the scoring. Matt Crowell and Nick Graham both recorded a pair of assists and Archibald stopped all shots he faced. Dillon was Game MVP.
Truro opened the tournament with a 6-1 win over Bedford. Goals came from Dillon, Blaikie, Porter, Bolger, Coulson and Matt Crowell. Ryan Porter added two assists and was Game MVP while Hurlburt claimed the victory in the crease.
