DOMINION — Employers are being advised the deadline for the Canada Summer Jobs program has been changed — it is much earlier than previous years.
In a press release, Cape Breton-Canso MP Rodger Cuzner said eligible employers need to be aware the applications will be available online beginning Dec. 2 and must be submitted before Jan. 10.
“This will allow those employers who are successful in obtaining funding more time to recruit students,” Cuzner said.
Cuzner said good quality summer jobs provide valuable experience for students preparing to enter the workforce full time.
"Students also provide extra help to community organizations and small businesses that often don’t have the resources to hire additional staff during the busy summer months.”
Beginning Dec. 2, employers will be able to access Canada Summer Jobs applications at Service Canada Centres or online at www.servicecanada.gc.ca or telephone, toll-free, 1-800-935-5555.
The Canada Summer Jobs program provides funding for not-for-profit, public-sector and small private-sector employers to hire young people, between the ages of 15-30, who are in full-time studies and intend to return to school in the fall.
