The construction site for the new prison in Priestville is seen bustling with activity on Tuesday. The project is still on target for completion in late 2014.
Much work has been done on the project over the summer and Paul Kelly who is overseeing the project for the Department of Transportation and Infrastructure Renewal said he is pleased with the progress that Bird Construction has made.
The project is on target for completion in late 2014 and is still expected to be finished on budget.
“We’re in the midst of construction right now,” he said. “We’re trying to get the building closed in.”
The majority of that is now complete and already work is started on the interior of the building. Outside fencing, curbing and sidewalk work is underway as well.
More than 100 full-time and casual positions will be created when the 200-bed correctional centre opens in 2014.
