The 39-year-old Truro resident and magician recently presented his idea for a ‘Dragon's Den’ comic book during an audition in front of two producers of the CBC reality show in Halifax. On Thursday, he received a call from CBC Toronto telling him he was one of 300 Canadians who have been accepted to give their pitch on the show.

“I’m overjoyed and honoured to be representing Truro,” Johnston told the Truro Daily News on Friday. “I was beyond excited to get the call.”

Johnston received an 18-page guide on how to act during the taping, which will take place April 9 in Toronto, as well as coaching techniques.

Johnston will be responsible for giving about a half an hour pitch about the book that includes bios of all five dragons on the show, featuring them as superheroes, and their life story. He’ll use a curtain backdrop, caricatures of the dragons and live animals (rabbit and dove) as part of his pitch.

The show featuring Johnston won’t air until the fall and he is forbidden to reveal the results before then.

If the dragons fund his idea, Johnston intends to get the comic book into stores nationwide.

“It is also good to promote reading (and) it can be a collectible for adults,” Johnston added.

But that’s not the only reality show news Johnston has. He and a friend auditioned for ‘The Amazing Race Canada’ on Thursday. He expects an answer next month.
