Lunenburg RCMP are investigating the death of a woman whose body was discovered on the banks of the LaHave River Tuesday morning.
Foul play is not suspected and an autopsy is scheduled for tomorrow, according to an RCMP news release.
Mohamed Sayah, owner of Mo’s Quick Mart in Dayspring, says at about 8 a.m., he saw police vehicles arriving at the scene bordering Highway 3, located about two kilometres from his store. He says officers quickly blocked off a portion of the road and cordoned off an area with police tape.
“It’s shocking to see, for something like this to happen to a young woman,” said Sayah. “Some customers are saying she was in her early 20s. Everyone is quite upset by what happened. That’s all my customers have been talking about today.
“No one knows too much right now. We don’t know who the woman was.”
Lunenburg RCMP responded to a 911 call at 8 a.m.. The area has since been reopened to the public.
RCMP and the province’s Medical Examiner’s Office are attempting to identify the woman.
