TRURO, N.S.

A recent cold stretch has wreaked havoc on water mains around Truro after a third burst happened over the weekend.

A section of Young Street between Brunswick and Esplanade was closed to traffic Saturday as workers dug up and repaired a water main break near the train tracks. It was the third break along Young Street within a week.

Work began on the pipe at 10 a.m. Saturday morning, and wrapped up at 6 p.m. that evening.

Like the others, the burst was attributed to the recent cold weather Truro has been experiencing this winter.

“Snow usually helps insulate the ground a bit, but this year we have seen more frost than what we have seen in past years,” said Jared Bent, junior engineer for the Town of Truro.

As far as this becoming a winter trend, Bent said, “It’s hard to predict.”
