TRURO, N.S. – A Stewiacke teenager charged with second-degree murder has been committed to stand trial following the completion of a preliminary inquiry on Monday.
The teen, who cannot be named under the provisions of the Youth Criminal Justice Act, is to return to court March 20 to set trial dates.
He is charged in the Aug. 18 death of Daniel Handrahan, 46, following an early morning altercation outside a Stewiacke residence. Information disclosed during the preliminary inquiry is also banned from publication.
The youth, who was 17 when he was charged, has elected to be tried in Nova Scotia Supreme Court by judge and jury.
He is free on a bail recognizance with a number of conditions.
