Man serving sentence for murder escapes from Dorchester Penitentiary

SACKVILLE, NB

A man serving a life sentence at Dorchester Penitentiary escaped from the facility on Wednesday, and Sackville RCMP are asking anyone with information on his whereabouts to contact them.

Steven Bugden, 45, was discovered to be missing when correctional officers conducted a count of inmates at 10 p.m. on February 7. Police were immediately contacted.

The facility was searched by correctional officers while RCMP, with the assistance of a police dog, searched the surrounding area.

Budgen, who was housed in the minimum-security unit, pleaded guilty to second-degree murder in the 1997 death of Angela Tong, a Carleton University student who was stabled 19 times.

Budgen is described as white, with a fair complexion, 165 cm (5'5") tall and weighing about 85 kg (188 lbs.). He has blond hair and blue eyes.
