An RCMP officer is to be sentenced on Oct. 19 after pleading guilty to uttering threats against a woman.

Const. Gregory Willis Whalen, 47, of Willow Street, Truro, also pled guilty to two counts of breaching court undertakings by failing to abstain from alcohol and for communicating with his complainant via text messages after being ordered by the court not to.

A further charge of assault is expected to be dismissed at the time of his sentencing in provincial court in Truro.

Whalen was arrested last October after RCMP responded to a home in Bible Hill following an alleged incident from the previous day. The threat charge relates to uttering threats through text messages to cause bodily harm or death to the woman.

Whalen, who does not work out of the Colchester detachment, is a nine-year member of the force. He was charged following an investigation by the province's Serious Incident Response Unit. He is currently suspended with pay from the force.
