One dead and four injured in Highway 102 crash

One person died and four were injured as a result of a collision on Highway 102 Tuesday afternoon.

A two-vehicle collision took place between Exits 6 and 7, shortly after 3 p.m. on January 2. A 2011 Toyota Corolla, that was travelling northbound on Highway 102, crossed the centre median and entered the southbound lane, striking a 2008 Toyota Rav4 head on.

The driver of the Corolla, a 36-year-old man from Colchester County, and a four-year-old boy, were taken to hospital with non-life threatening injuries. The passenger in the vehicle, a 34-year-old woman from Colchester County, was pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver of the Rav4, a 50-year-old woman from Halifax, and the passenger, a 20-year-old woman from Halifax, were taken to hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

Halifax District RCMP, EHS and Halifax Regional Fire were on scene.

Three of the injured people were transported from the scene by EHS LifeFlight and one was taken by ambulance.

All southbound traffic was rerouted to Highway 2 for about eight hours
