TRURO, N.S. - A water main break has left a Truro neighborhood without water as workers rush to fix the broken line Thursday morning.

Two water mains broke in the Young Street and Beechwood Drive areas, leaving residents without water since Wednesday afternoon.

The first break in the area has been repaired, but a second water main break late Wednesday afternoon has kept workers on site as they try to repair the line.

While the exact cause of the break is unknown at the moment, Truro’s Engineering and Public Works department said it was most likely due to freezing from the cold snap the area has experienced the last few days.

Public Works said they don’t have an estimated time for the line to be fixed at the moment, but want to remind those affected to run their taps once the work is complete to clear out their system of sediment before using the water for cooking of drinking.

Young Street is currently closed to all traffic between Glenwood and Fairview Drive, and Beechwood drive is also closed between Pleasant and Young Street while crews work on the broken line.
