Vehicles and power pole hit by stolen truck in Truro

TRURO, NS - Several vehicles were hit and a power pole was damaged when a driver went through downtown Truro with a stolen truck Saturday evening.

On Aug. 12, around 7:30 p.m., Truro Police responded to a call of a stolen vehicle on Walker St. and then to a motor vehicle accident on the Esplanade.

While officers were speaking with the driver of the vehicle that had been hit on the Esplanade the stolen truck went by. They tried to get it to pull over but the driver refused to stop. A short time later the vehicle struck several other vehicles and then a power pole at the intersection of King and Victoria Streets. The driver fled on foot but was captured.

Three people who were in the stolen vehicle were arrested.

Jason Michael Tupper, 39, of Truro was charged with theft of a truck, impaired driving by alcohol, refusing the breathalyzer, failing to stop at the scene of an accident in which he’d been involved, damaging property and breach of recognizance.

He was remanded into custody to appear in Truro Provincial Court this morning.

An 18-year-old female, who had a warrant for her arrest on a previous matter, was charged with assaulting a police officer. She was released and will appear in court at a later date

A 28-year-old male from Truro was released without charge.  

Three people from the hit vehicles were treated at hospital for non-life threatening injuries.
