BIBLE HILL, N.S. – Support is coming together for a family whose home was lost to fire in Bible Hill Thursday.

Kristen Moore and Brad Mingo purchased the house last year and are currently staying with family members. Because they lost everything in the fire, a friend has set up a GoFundMe campaign at https://www.gofundme.com/kristenandbrad-fire

The couple were away when the blaze broke out. Children playing outside noticed the Albert Street house was on fire shortly after 3 p.m. They alerted neighbours and emergency services was called. The neighbours were also able to break down a door to get three dogs inside to safety.

Firefighters from Bible Hill, Valley-Kemptown, Truro and Salmon River responded. Main Street was closed part of the afternoon, and Colchester RCMP were on site to control traffic in the area.

“Fire got into the walls and attic, and it was tough to get out,” said Dwane Mellish, a member of the Bible Hill Fire Brigade. “It was a very warm day, and that made it more of a challenge. It was around 6:30 (p.m.) when we cleared the scene.”

No one was injured, and investigators were on scene Friday, attempting to determine a cause of the fire.

Donations are being gathered to help the young family. Size 4 diapers and 4-to-5 pull-ups are appreciated. The family can also use clothing: size 18 months for a girl; size 4 or 5 tall for a boy, women’s tops size 3X; women’s bottoms size 20 or 1X; men’s tops size 3X tall; and men’s bottoms size 42 waist and 30 or 32 long.

Items and can be left on the porch at 224 Abenaki Road.
