Two charged after police investigate Sydney Mines home invasion and shooting

SYDNEY - Two people charged in connection with a shooting incident Monday at a Sydney Mines housing project have been remanded pending the outcome of a bail hearing Friday.

Leonard Joseph Groves, 28, of North Sydney, and Jenna Rebecca Gionet, 26, of North Sydney, made brief provincial court appearances Wednesday and remanded pending the outcome of their bail hearings.

Groves is charged with unlawfully being in a dwelling, robbery, careless use of a  firearm, using a firearm in committing an offence, pointing a firearm and three counts of breaching court orders.

Gionet is charged with theft, possession of stolen property and breaching a court order.

The pair were charged in connection with an incident Monday at the Red Brick Row housing project on Main Street in Sydney Mines.

Police report that a man and woman forced their way into one home. A gunshot was fired inside the home. No injuries were reported.
