An estimated 50 people had gathered at the Young Street rink to greet the hometown curlers who were returning from the world senior women’s curling championship held in Dumfries, Scotland at the end of April.
“It makes us feel awesome … we feel the love for our team and we’ve made friends everywhere,” she said about the warm gathering. “It’s great people take time out of their schedule” to be here.
She said the jovial reception “makes you feel so proud to represent Canada, Truro and the Truro Curling Club.”
After a hard-fought battle in the world semifinals the Pinkney team, which also includes third Wendy Currie, second Shelley MacNutt, lead Susan Creelman and fifth Judy Burgess, nipped Sweden’s Ingrid Meldahl 6-5 advancing to the gold-medal match.
The home team was edged 6-5 by Scotland’s Christine Cannon in the gold-medal game earning silver on the world stage.
The team qualified for the event last year by winning the Canadian title in Summerside.
This was her second bid for a world senior women’s curling championship after winning in 2010 in Chelyabinsk, Russia.
