TRURO, N.S. – A 60-year-old man was treated at hospital after being pulled from his car onto a sidewalk in Truro Wednesday morning.

The culprit then fled in the man’s vehicle, which was later discovered by police in a rural setting in the Great Village area.

“A gentleman pulled over on Prince Street (near Waddell) and when he did that, an individual opened the door of his car, proceeded to pull him out of his car and he got in the guy’s car and took off with it,” said Truro Police Service chief Dave MacNeil.

“He did suffer some injuries (by being pulled to the sidewalk),” MacNeil said, of the victim, who was transported to hospital by ambulance for treatment.

In the meantime, the police were hot on the carjacker’s trail.

“We learned the gentleman’s iPhone was in the car and we were able to use the technology of the iPhone to track where his car was,” MacNeil said.

“We proceeded to look around for this vehicle and it was quite some time later by the time we were able to get the guy’s password for his phone.”

After checking the phone’s location, MacNeil said it was eventually determined that the car was parked in the Great Village area.

“So, at that time we asked the Mounties to head out to Great Village to see if they could find the car. And they did find the car.

The suspect was ultimately located with the aid of RCMP tracking dog, Elvia.

A 35-year-old man, whose last known address was Moncton, N.B., has been arrested and charged and is scheduled to appear in provincial court in Truro Thursday morning.
