BIBLE HILL, NS

Tom Burke is returning to the Bible Hill Village Commission.

Burke, with four people running against him, came out on top during the election on Saturday, July 21.

“I’m happy to be back, with a refreshed outlook on things,” he said.

“I’ve been talking to people, and heard some of the things they want. One is that the village hold one election for all seats, and that it not be held during holiday season.”

The village currently holds staggered elections, with commissioners serving three year terms. One of the seats becomes available each year.

“Taxes are always an issue, and people feel they’re too high,” said Burke.

Burke has previously been involved with the commission for more than 20 years, serving as the chairman for some of that time. He resigned from the commission in August 2016 in order to run in the county election.

He has lived in the village for 44 years. He runs Welpro Supply Limited, a well drilling business, but plans to retire soon.

His first meeting since being reelected will be August 21.

“This was the largest number of people I’ve run against, and I thank them for coming out,” he added.

Election results:

Tom Burke – 72

Dale MacLeod – 57

Dick Cotterill – 42

Karen Mills – 19
