Colchester County Council granted in-principle approval during Wednesday’s nights Committee of the Whole meeting to accept a bid of $198,630 (plus HST) from Sackville Trenching Ltd. to complete the work. The decision is to be ratified at next week’s council session.

The bid was the lowest of 10 tenders received by municipality.

A staff report to council said the existing asphalt sidewalks are in poor condition and are to be replaced with concrete.

The total cost of the project is expected to be $242,143 plus contingencies, including expenses for staff time and design and survey fees.

Funding for the project is to be split equally between the municipality’s Active Transportation Rate and gas tax revenues.

Work is expected to begin in early May and be complete within six weeks.
