A.J. Walker and Son Ltd., operated by Warren Legge since 2003, has sold its assets to Arnold Hagen of Harris Home Hardware Building Centre in Valley.

Legge said his store will continue operations for two months, with Feb. 29 being the final day.

On March 1, the location will house a second Harris Home Hardware Building Centre until a new facility, at the old Co-op building on Willow Street, opens.

"This is hard for me," said Legge, who took over the business that's been in his family since the 1930s. "Being independent and where they're opening a new location, it's competition for me."

The 28 employees with Walkers will be given first consideration to work with Hagen when the hiring process begins.

The 20,000 square-foot facility on Willow Street has an expected opening date of April 16.
