TRURO, N.S.

An RCMP officer charged with assaulting and uttering threats against a woman is scheduled to go to trial on Aug. 13.

Cst. Gregory Willis Whalen, 47, of Bible Hill, entered a not guilty plea earlier this week in provincial court in Truro. He is represented by Halifax criminal defence lawyer Joel Pink.

Whalen was arrested October 20 after RCMP responded to a home in Bible Hill following the alleged incident the previous day. The threat charge stems from an alleged text message he sent to the woman.

Whalen, an eight-year member of the force (who does not work out of the Colchester detachment), was charged following an investigation by the province’s Serious Incident Response Unit. He is currently suspended with pay from the force.
