Tatamagouche man given probation for drug charge

TRURO - A 19-year-old man from Tatamagouche was given a conditional discharge following probation after pleading guilty to one count of possession of marijuana.

Tanner Paul Mingo, of 1792 Highway 6, was given a $50 victim fine surcharge payable within 30 days, along with the six-month probationary period.

The incident occurred on Dec. 28, 2011, when members of the Tatamagouche RCMP detachment stopped Mingo on a motor vehicle matter. The officer smelled fresh marijuana and 10 grams of the drug was discovered on Mingo.

Bible Hill man sentenced to one day, deemed served by court appearance

TRURO - Joseph Edward Smith, 36, of 14 College Ct., Bible Hill, was sentenced to one day in custody, deemed served by his court appearance, after pleading guilty to one count of breaching a probation order by not keeping the peace and being of good behaviour.

On Dec. 26, 2011, Smith damaged the door to the residence where he was staying at that time. He replaced the door the following day.

Rash of thefts, break and enters results in probation

TRURO - Alicia Dawn Nash, 20, of 52 Center St., Truro, was given a suspended sentence of 18 months probation after pleading guilty to a series of thefts and break, enter and thefts.

Nash pleaded guilty to one count of theft from Sept. 24, 2011, as well as nine counts of theft from Aug. 23 that same year.

She entered guilty pleas to five counts each of theft and prowling at night, two counts of break, enter and theft, and one count of breaching a probation order, all from Aug. 18.

She was given a total of 20 hours of community service to complete as well.

The incidents occurred throughout Truro, Bible Hill and Valley.

Indian Brook woman fined for theft

TRURO - An Indian Brook woman was fined $100 after pleading guilty to a count of theft under $5,000.

Nadine Elizabeth Michael-Howe, 30, of 98 Sesame St., has until July 5 to pay the fine from a June 16, 2009, incident.

Greenfield man fined for breathalyzer failure

TRURO - Greenfield's Michael Norman Huffman was fined a total of $1,150 for a charge of failing the breathalyzer.

Huffman, 39, of 114 Scott Ave., has until March 7, 2013, to pay the $1,000 fine and $150 victim fine surcharge.

A 12-month driving prohibition was imposed.

Breathalyzer failure nets Brookfield man fine

TRURO - Brian Lester Hill, 32, of 264 John Bell Rd., Brookfield, was given a $1,000 fine after pleading guilty to breathalyzer failure.

A $100 victim fine surcharge was also imposed, as well as a one-year driving prohibition.

He has until Sept. 6 to pay the fine.

Truro man fined for breaching probation

TRURO - Truro's Christopher Shane Goodwin, 34, of 43 Lockhart Ave., was given a fine of $250 after entering a guilty plea to one count of failing to comply with a probation order.

A victim fine surcharge of $37.50 was also imposed for the Feb. 20 incident.

Truro man fined for failing breathalyzer

TRURO - Gary Keith Selkirk, 59, of 65 Robertson Cres., Truro, was fined $1,000 for failing the breathalyzer on Feb. 17.

Selkirk's fine and $150 victim fine surcharge are payable by Sept. 6.

A 12-month driving prohibition was also imposed.

Salmon River man sentenced to probation

TRURO - Salmon River's Jacob Foster Roy was given a conditional discharge following 12 months probation after pleading guilty to two criminal charges.

Roy, 21, was also given a $50 victim fine surcharge, payable by May 3, for one count each of carrying a weapon for a purpose dangerous to the public and mischief or property damage.

The incidents occurred Nov. 13, 2011, in Truro Heights.
