The RCMP on scene Monday investigating a stabbing inside a Prospect Road home in Bayside.

Around 11:45 p.m., RCMP said they were called to an assault that happened in a home on Prospect Road in Bayside.

When officers arrived, they found a 51-year-old suffering from several stab wounds. He was taken to hospital where he is listed in serious condition.

“There was a dispute that escalated,” said Halifax RCMP spokeswoman Const. Heidi Stevenson.

“We’re still trying to piece together what happened and why.”

William Beckman, 21, faces 10 charges including attempted murder and assault with a weapon in relation to the stabbing.

He was arraigned in court Monday, and was remanded back into custody. Beckman is set to appear in court next on June 25.

Stevenson said both the accused and victim are known to one another, and reside in the home.

Dorine Zinck said her family has lived in the home a few doors down from where the stabbing took place for nearly 40 years, but “pretty much everybody” keeps to themselves in the neighbourhood.

On Monday afternoon, Zinck said she did not know the men who lived there but said they had moved in recently.

She said having a violent crime committed in the area was unusual.

“It … kind of shocks you. You know it’s a really quiet place we have here,” Zinck said. “Years ago you knew everybody.”

RCMP officers were on the scene Monday afternoon and had blocked off the blue house and property with crime tape.

Chris Hansen, spokeswoman for the Public Prosecution Service, said Beckman was sentenced in May for other charges related to a November 2011 incident.

Hansen said those charges included two counts of break and enter and committing offence, failure to comply with conditions, and being at large on an undertaking.

Beckman is facing charges of attempted murder, two counts of assault with a weapon, assault causing bodily harm, uttering death threats, two counts of possession of weapon for a dangerous purpose, two counts of breach of probation, failure to comply with conditions.
