The youth is charged with the Aug. 18 death of Daniel Handrahan, 46, following an early morning altercation outside a Stewiacke residence. The identity of the accused is protected under the provisions of the Youth Criminal Justice Act.
At a brief hearing Monday afternoon in Truro, a representative for Halifax criminal defence lawyer Stan MacDonald said the solicitor had only recently been retained in the case and required time to review the Crown’s disclosure.
During Monday’s hearing, provincial court Judge Al Bégin made reference to the fact that Crown attorney Rick Hartlen had previously given notice that he plans to proceed with an adult sentencing recommendation if the youth is found guilty.
