The children taking part in the Forever Memories Equestrian Centre March break camp are able to ride in the MacMillan Show Centre, thanks to a court injunction.
Shelby Gatti, who owns the business on the Nova Scotia Provincial Exhibition grounds in Bible Hill, was recently notified that she had to remove her animals and equipment from the property, and that she could not use the MacMillan Show Centre.
Because 28 children had already registered for the March break camp, Gatti rented space at the Truro Horsemen’s Club to hold some of the activities, and children rode in the wet outdoor ring.
“We’re just allowed to use the MacMillan for this, and in order to get that we went to court and got an injunction,” said Gatti. “We’re continuing to try and work this out. Their lawyer has been in touch with our lawyer.
“There’s no change of mind about us staying on the property, which is fine if they can provide me with a place to be. I need a place where the animals will be safe and children can still ride.”
In an email, Nova Scotia Department of Agriculture media relations adviser Chrissy Matheson said, “We continue to work with the leaseholder to address their needs. That includes willingness to provide short term financial support that would allow them to find a solution for housing their animals. The department is willing to entertain offers of help that would make that possible.”
When asked if more details could be provided she said nothing else could be added because the “matter is now before the court.”
