BIBLE HIILL, N.S.

Bible Hill firefighters used an extension ladder to rescue a man from his second-floor apartment after fire broke out in the downstairs kitchen Wednesday morning.

“There was a gentleman that was trapped upstairs; we were able to get him out through a window,” said Joey Bisson, chief of the Bible Hill Fire Brigade.

“He was taken to hospital to be checked out and released with a clean bill of health.”

The man was alone in the residence at the time of the fire.

Firefighters were called out to the blaze in an apartment behind the main residence at 117 Pictou Rd. shortly before 8 a.m. Assistance was provided by members from the Truro and Valley/Kemptown brigades, Bisson said.

“Everything was able to be contained and knocked down fairly quickly,” he said. “We were happy with how it turned out.

Bisson said “significant” to moderate fire damage was limited to the kitchen area with collateral water damage to other sectors of the main floor. The lone resident of the apartment, who was not identified, has found temporary lodging with family or friends, the chief said, because of the damage the structure sustained.

“It’s going to definitely need some work to it.”

Bison said the cause of the blaze was not immediately apparent and the fire remains under investigation.
