The pair will compete on April 7 in this year's IFCS World Agility Championships in Italy. Landry is proud to be representing his country on the world stage, along with teammate Sarah LeBlanc. Both competitors, originally from Cape Breton, will represent Nova Scotia and Canada at the championships.
It's not the first time Landry and Crash have carried the banner for this country. They have competed three other times and last year placed ninth overall. And, surprisingly, winning this year's contest isn't Landry's main goal. His hope is to gain more experience and take home new skills to practice.
"I want to improve on something better than ninth," said Landry, who began competing in canine agility in 2009 with Crash.
"Having been involved in competitive sports for as long as I can remember, whether it be hockey, tennis, basketball, baseball, etcetera, none of these sports has provided me with the amount of joy as canine agility."
Ultimately, such events are about having fun and travelling, said Landry.
"The main purpose for me is for fun and to get to see the world with my dog," said Landry. "I love every single second that I'm out training or competing with Crash, and cannot wait to put on the red and white alongside some of the most talented dogs our country has to offer on the world stage."
LeBlanc and her border collie Bo is excited to accompany her teammate. She credits Landry as the person who introduced her to canine agility.
"Andre' is the reason why I fell in love with it and into it," said LeBlanc, adding she's excited to see what they learn from the world championships.
"I'm going for the experience," said LeBlanc.
LeBlanc and Landry said community support has been tremendous.
"I don't think there is a big enough thank you to give them," said Landry.
