Residential sales in the northern region of Nova Scotia showed a steady increase during April, May and June.

The Northern region, which includes the counties of Colchester, Cumberland and Pictou, saw 97 homes sold in April; 112 in May; and 123 in June, according to figures provided by the Nova Scotia Association of Realtors (NSAR).

Cape Breton recorded 31 home sales in April, 49 in May and 54 in June.

Other areas of the province saw sales increases in May over April but they dropped back again in June.

In the Halifax/Dartmouth area, for instance, 502 homes were sold in April, 570 in May and 540 in June.

In Annapolis Valley, 132 homes were sold in April, 177 in May and 163 in June.

NSAR president Roger Sanford said the province’s real estate industry had its best start for the first quarter of this year since 2012 but that trend has not held up.

“Spring started off strong here in Nova Scotia.  May 2015, however, was exceptionally strong and numbers from this May show that the market didn’t live up to that,” he said.

In Northern Nova Scotia, the average sales price for residential listings in April was $126,951. That rose to $146,047 in May and then dropped to $114,866 in June.

Across the province in June, residential sales activity recorded through the MLS system was 990 units.
