The Bible Hill Fire Brigade was called to a structure fire on Hillcrest Avenue around 10 p.m. to find a two-storey house in flames. The house suffered significant damage but four people who lived in it, along with a few pets, all got our safely.

“It was a very hot fire and difficult to extinguish,” said Bible Hill Fire Chief Dwane Mellish. “We believe it was an accidental fire that started on the second floor.”

Truro, Valley-Kemptown and Salmon River all provided mutual aid and a special firefighter safety team came from Brookfield. Firefighters were on scene until 2 a.m. but barely made it home before being called out again.

At 4:07 a.m. there was a call for a structure fire on Andy’s Avenue. A shed close to a vacant mobile home had caught fire and that soon spread to the mobile.

“That one was extinguished a little quicker,” said Mellish. “We cleared it about 6 a.m. but it’s totally destroyed.

“We’ve had great cooperation from our mutual aid partners, coming out twice in one night, and we really appreciate it. We’ve been drawing on them pretty strongly the last little bit. We also had EHS and RCMP to help at both locations.”
