UPPER ECONOMY, N.S.
One woman is dead and another individual is in serious condition in a Halifax hospital following a two-vehicle collision in Upper Economy late Monday afternoon.
The accident, which occurred shortly before 5:30 p.m., occurred when an antique car travelling east on Highway 2 in Upper Economy, swerved into the lane of an oncoming pickup truck.
The 53-year-old female passenger in the car, from Londonderry, was ejected from the vehicle and died at the scene, RCMP Cpl. Jennifer Clarke said.
The woman’s husband, who was driving, was transported to hospital via LifeFlight with serious injuries.
The driver of the pickup truck was not injured.
Police have not released the identities of any of the individuals involved.
It is believed the driver of the car swerved to miss a dog although Colchester District RCMP Cpl. Rodney Peterson said he was not immediately able to confirm that information.
An RCMP collision analyst was called to assist with the investigation, which resulted in Highway 2 being closed for several hours Monday night. The road has since been re-opened and the investigation is ongoing.
