Philip Quigley, who was the chairperson for the Truro Homeless Outreach Society for the past two years, made the decision not to re-offer during the society’s recent annual general meeting.
“I had only agreed to one year, but I gave it two,” he said. “I wasn’t prepared to offer again. It had grown into a fulltime job, even on a volunteer basis and it was too much.”
Jim Murray was elected chairperson, with a big slate of board of directors.
Over the past two years, the society was able to raise enough money to get a new, permanent facility on the go. The Town of Truro recently granted a piece of land on Mill Street to the society.
“My goal was to secure a piece of land and have enough money in the bank for a new building,” said Quigley. “And I’ve done that.”
Quigley said he plans to continue volunteering in some capacity with the society, however, he’s not sure at this point just what that capacity will be.
