Free movies in the park returning to Truro this week

TRURO – Outdoor movies will begin again in Victoria Park this Friday.

Mid-summer movie nights will be held on four consecutive Fridays and is hosted by the Town of Truro Department of Parks, Recreation and Culture.

There is no charge to view the movies, which begin at about 9 p.m. at the bandshell.

Cathy von Kintzel, special events and culture co-ordinator for Truro Parks, Recreation and Culture, said hundreds of people have attended the weekly features in the past. Movie-goers are encouraged to bring their own chairs and snacks.

In the case of poor weather, movies will be shown at Douglas Street Recreation Centre, at40 Douglas St.

The following, provided by the parks, recreation and culture department, is a look at the upcoming mid-summer movie nights lineup:

July 18 - The Lego Movie (2014) G
- An ordinary LEGO minifigure, mistakenly thought to be the extraordinary MasterBuilder, is recruited to join a quest to stop an evil LEGO tyrant from gluing the universe together.

July 25 - The Pagemaster (1994) PG
- The Pagemaster, keeper of the books and guardian of the written word, sends a timid young boy on an animated adventure through the fiction section of the library, where the greatest stories of all time come to life.

Aug. 1 - The Croods (2013) G
- The Croods is a prehistoric comedy adventure that follows the world's first family as they embark on a journey of a lifetime when the cave that has always shielded them from danger is destroyed.

Aug. 8 - Jack the Giant Slayer (2013) PG -
Jack the Giant Slayer tells the story of an ancient war that is reignited when a young farmhand unwittingly opens a gateway between our world and a fearsome race of giants.
