Spa customers very disappointed by sudden closure

TRURO – The sudden closing of a downtown health spa has left some customers “disappointed” and confused.

“I’m very disappointed,” said Belmont resident Shirley Roode, after learning of the unexpected closing of the BellaSante Holistic Health Centre & Spa on Prince Street.

“I had an appointment today at two o’clock and that is the first I knew,” she said Wednesday afternoon.

“As a matter of fact, I spoke to the girl yesterday because I had to rebook my appointment due to the esthetician being sick they told me on Monday,” Roode said. “When I approached the door I read the notice and that’s the first I knew that this was happening.”

Spa owner and founder Chantale Hache notified the Truro Daily News of the sudden closure Wednesday morning via e-mail. Calls placed to her for comment were not returned by press deadline on Wednesday.

Roode said a staff person who spoke to her when she went to the spa said employees had no advance notice of the closure.

And she is left wondering whether the gift card she had planned to redeem now is completely valueless.

“I hadn’t used any of it,” she said.

“I’ve gone to them for the last two to three years and I guess it’s just disappointment in the way they conduct business,” she said, of companies that suddenly shut down their operations without making arrangements to honour pre-paid gift cards.

“It seems to be happening too frequently,” she said. “They don’t seem to have the customer’s best interests at heart these days.”

A number of BellaSante customers expressed similiar sentiments on the Truro Daily News website.

And Josee Bourgeois suggested in an emailed correspondence to the newspaper that she was especially taken aback, given that she had purchased a gift card from the spa on Tuesday.

I am one of the members of this year's Shakespeare (in Victoria Park) production and I was in charge of purchasing a gift card from BellaSante Spa in Truro,” she said, of the $63 card she purchased on Tuesday.

“This morning I was informed by a fellow cast member that they have gone out of business.

As of this morning their phone number is disconnected and the contact portion of the website has been disabled … ,” she said.

“I am disappointed and I feel ripped off as do the other cast members from this community production that contributed to the gift fund.”
