MONCTON - Karen and Jim MacKay are the latest lottery millionaires in Nova Scotia after the Upper Musquodoboit couple won the guaranteed $1 million prize in the May 3 draw for Lotto 649.

The MacKay’s were all smiles when they arrived in Moncton, N.B. on Friday, to claim their prize at the Atlantic Lottery Corporation headquarters.

Karen was understandably giddy during a telephone interview, calling it was one of the most exciting days of her life.

“We don’t have any plans for the money right away, we are still letting it sink in,” she said, adding that family members had varied reactions to the exciting news.

“Everything from crying to hugging, to ”Oh my god!” All that kind of stuff.”

MacKay says that she and her husband usually buy lotto tickets once a week, when they are purchasing their groceries.

“A friend mentioned that someone won from Truro and we knew we had purchased a ticket there, so we went online on Sunday morning and just checked the numbers,” she said.

MacKay says they plan to continue to buy lotto tickets on a regular basis.
