New trial date to be set for Truro-area magician facing assault charges

TRURO - A North River man who is facing a number of charges, including dangerous operation of a motor vehicle, is scheduled to return to court on Monday to set a new trial date.

David William Johnston, 41, of 220 Mountain Lee Rd., a well-known local magician who performs under the title of Mister J, had been scheduled to go to trial on March 31.

He is also charged with attempting to poison Jason Nichols, assault with a motor vehicle and assault causing bodily harm to the same person, as well as leaving the scene of an accident.

The incidents, which have not been proven in court, are alleged to have occurred last April 26 in the Sobey’s parking lot on Robie Street.
